Cape Winelands

A journey through the lush Cape Winelands of the Western Cape will soon reveal why South Africa has gained an international reputation for the production of award-winning wines. Surrounded by majestic mountains and stretching from the coast to the Klein Karoo, the Cape Winelands enjoys the perfect climate and growing conditions to support its many wineries. Visitors may have a hard time choosing which of the many superb wine routes to explore.

Tucked away from the bedlam of city life, the Cape Winelands features health spas, golf courses, restaurants, nature reserves, museums, galleries, open-air theaters, art & craft shops, business hubs, conference centers, and, of course, row upon row of vineyards changing colors with the seasons. Activities include hiking, game viewing, bird watching, canoeing, 4×4 trails, horseback safaris, mountain biking, abseiling, kloofing, rock pool swimming, and more.

At the heart of the wine-producing region is the charming town of Stellenbosch, known for its oak-lined streets and iconic Cape Dutch architecture. The picturesque town of Ceres stands out as the region’s fruit farming capital, while Bonnievale is well-loved for its cheese production. The Dwars River community invites you to slow down and discover its Dwars River Escape Route, a peaceful detour for city-weary travellers.

Other vibrant towns that make up the Cape Winelands include Franschhoek, Paarl, Wellington, Durbanville, De Doorns, McGregor, Montagu, Ashton, Robertson, Tulbagh, and Wolseley—each offering unique experiences, local charm, and cultural richness well worth exploring.
