Cape Town Theatres

Art and Culture

What better way can there be to gain insight into the culture of the city you are visiting than to take in some local theater entertainment. Cape Town is a multi-cultural, multi-lingual, multi-racial melting pot, and Capetonians embrace both traditional and contemporary theater. So whether you enjoy comedy, ballet, opera, drama or off-beat experimental theater, you are likely to find something to suit your mood at a Cape Town theater.

From the small intimate Masque Theater in Muizenberg, to the beautifully located Theater on the Bay in Camps Bay, Cape Town has a rich performing arts community that promotes the very best of both local and international talent. Certainly, visitors to this vibrant city will find that there is no shortage of world-class theater entertainment to enjoy.

Cape Town is home to South Africa’s oldest theatre – the Fugard Theatre (recently renamed) – which has hosted some of the country’s most iconic political and cultural performances, including works by anti-apartheid playwright Athol Fugard.
