Kaas en Wyn by die Fairview Wyn-landgoed

Die ou verouderingskelder op die Fairview Wyn-landgoed is verander in ‘n binne- en buitenshuise Mediterreense styl restourant bekend as die Bokkraal (Goatshed). Van die hoogtepunte op die spyskaart is Fairview se eie bokmelk en Jersey-melk kase ─ talle waarvan reeds internasionale toekennings verwerf het. Een van Fairview se uitstaande kenmerke is die Boktoring voor die wynmakery. Die plaas is die tuiste van 600 bokke en hierdie ronde toring met sy wenteltrap buite om is vir die bokke die ideale plek om rustig die oorvloedige son te geniet. Die boktoring is reeds ‘n landmerk en word ook gebruik op Fairview se wynetikette. Hierdie trop bokke het ook ‘n premium wyn na hulle laat vernoem is ─ bekend as “Goats do Roam”.

Die wynmaak tradisie van die plaas strek ver terug aangesien belastingrekords reeds in 1699 verwys na hul vaatjies wyn. Die plaas se naam was aanvanklik Bloemkoolfontein (Blomkoolfontein) en ‘spog’ ,ironies genoeg ,met ‘n rekord agt keer se insolvente verklarings. In 1937 het Charles Back se grootvader, ‘n immigrant van Lithuanië, die plaas gekoop en het die fortuin verander. As ‘n selfopgeleide wynmaker het hy met vindingrykheid en uithouvermoë spoedig geslaag om wyne te produseer wat pryse verower het. Die plaas het nou in die hande van die Back-familie gebly en veral Charles Back se instinktiewe aanvoeling van marktendense en veranderings in wynvoorkeure het gesorg dat die wynmakery ontwikkel het in ‘n voorspoedige bedryf.

Besoekers aas die Wes-Kaap mag nie ‘n besoek aan die Fairview Wyn-landgoed misloop nie. Kyk uit vir die boktoring en laat dit jou lei na goeie kos en premium wyne in ‘n stresvrye omgewing.
