Midrand is home to the Nizamiye Mosque, the largest mosque in the Southern Hemisphere. Inspired by Ottoman architecture and modeled after the Selimiye Mosque in Turkey, it features intricate tilework, a grand dome, and four towering minarets — making it not only a place of worship but also a stunning architectural landmark and cultural hub in the heart of South Africa.

Midrand

Located between Pretoria and Johannesburg in the Gauteng Province of South Africa, Midrand is a mix of residential, business and industrial areas. With easy access to major highways running between these two busy cities as well as other parts of Gauteng, many businesses relocated from cities to Midrand and the area has seen phenomenal growth in the past few decades, with town planners and other experts being of the opinion that Midrand will connect Pretoria and Johannesburg by the year 2015.

The area that was once officially known as Midrand has been reshuffled and incorporated into the City of Johannesburg. Nonetheless, the name is still commonly used for the area including the vastly contrasting suburbs of Crowthorne, Carlswald, Glen Austin, Halfway House, Halfway Gardens, Vorna Valley, Randjesfontein and Kyalami. There is plenty to see and do in and around Midrand which incorporates the world renowned Kyalami Race Track and is home to the stunning South African Lipizzaners.

Bird-lovers will enjoy the wide variety of birdlife at the Glen Austin Bird Sanctuary, and the whole family will be entertained by the animals of the Lory Park Animal and Owl Sanctuary. The family-oriented Midrand Urban Market takes place on the first Saturday of every month, offering loads of fun and entertainment along with good food and interesting arts and crafts. Other places of interest in Midrand are the Gallagher Estate conference and exhibition center and the Kyalami Country Club.
