During the 1980s and 1990s, Roxette became a household name throughout the world. Their success not only brought them fame and fortune but Gold and Platinum awards as well. The band consists of Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson. Over the years, they have sold approximately sixty million albums, with some of their songs still being played on popular radio stations. They toured the world and enjoyed numerous number one hit singles, but in 2002 touring came to an abrupt end when Fredriksson was hospitalized with a brain tumor, which was successfully removed. It took another eight years before Roxette graced the stage again, getting together for the Party Crasher tour in 2009. The Hotel Tylosand was the venue for a two hour concert performed by Roxette on 4 August 2010, and in November the band announced that they will be setting off on a world tour from 1 March 2011. The tour comes on the heels of the announcement that a new album is being put together, and the tour will go hand in hand with the new album’s release.
Both Gessle and Fredriksson are excited about the upcoming tour, with Gessle commenting, “Knowing what Marie had to go through in recovering from her severe illness, this is not only unbelievable, it seems almost magical to me. It will be wonderful to meet all our audience on Planet Earth again.” Fredriksson said that she had dreamed of another tour since 2002, and now that it is finally happening, she cannot wait to meet her fans again. The Roxette concert dates scheduled for South Africa is 11 May 2011 in Cape Town, 14 May 2011 in Johannesburg and 15 May 2011 at the Sun City Superbowl. Ticket prices will range in price between R250 and R475.
